Life Legacy

Bruscato, John (1944 - 2007) John Bruscato died suddenly on June 16, 2007 at age 62. He was born in Rockford on October 7, 1944 and lived his entire life in the home in which he grew up in. He was a teacher of special education and taught in Rockford, Genoa and Gilman, Illinois. He earned a BA from Marquette University, and a MS and a second master’s degree in school administration from National Lewis University.

Bruscato was a long time member of Eckankar, the Religion of the Light and Sound of God. As an Eckist, John believed that Soul is Eternal and reincarnates again and again until it graduates from the school of physical life. John believed that this life would be his last on earth unless God gave him another assignment to be here in another lifetime. Friends and family knew John as the gentlest and kindest of beings and feel that God will have plans for him in the spiritual planes.

John loved reading and writing. He was passionate about English and philosophy and politics. He loved books. He played the piano and enjoyed classical music. He loved England and lighthouses and the ocean. Although John did not marry or have children, he has generations of children that he has taught and cared for. He also had a menagerie of birds and squirrels that he fed in his yard and made special arrangements for neighbors to feed them when he took trips.

Family and friends grieve his passing but know that he is with God and family members who have passed before him. He is predeceased by his father, Joseph Bruscato and his mother, Mary Alongi Bruscato, three brothers in law; Bob Koberg, Bill Gaffney and Mike Ruvolo. He is survived by his brother Angelo (Rockford) and sisters Jessica Ruvolo (Rockford) and Sylvia Gaffney (Rockford), numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and longtime close friends, Heather Peters(Rockford), Isaac Gurney (Rockford), Molly Gurney (Chicago), and Sarah Gurney (with the Peace Corps in Kyrgyzstan).

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established by the family.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 30 at 11:00 am with visitation at 9:00 am at Gasparini and Oliveri funeral home in Rockford. Eckankar clergy, Ernie Stokes will officiate.
