Life Legacy


Schiro, Charles A. age 81 of Rockford died at 5:29 AM on Sat. Feb. 13, 2010 in his home surrounded by his loving family after an extended illness. He was born July 18, 1928 in Rockford the son of John and Frances Schiro. He lived his entire life in Rockford. He married Carmela Vaccarello in Chicago on April 25, 1954. He worked with his father at Schiro Grocery Store then went on to work as a Life Insurance Agent with Western & Southern Life Insurance Co. for over 25 years. He was a Staff Sergeant in the Korean serving the United States Army. He was a member of The Cathedral of St. Peter Church. Charlie’s biggest passion was singing on W.L.U.V radio station and entertaining at nursing homes and retirement centers. He graduated from West High School where he played football. He went onto play running back for the Rockford Golden Eagles. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at OSF Hospice and Madison Veteran’s Hospital. Survivors include: wife Carmela, son John (Anna) Schiro of Rockton, daughters Frances (Mark) Sargent of Rockford and Tina (Darren) McCarthy of S. Carolina, 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, sister-in-laws Frances and Carol Schiro of Rockford and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Joseph, Mitchell, George, Frank, Tony, sister Frances Licari and infant John. In lieu of flowers, memorials to OSF Hospice.
